1. Installing Windows NT Server Tools
-------------------------------------
The Windows NT Server Tools are for use on computers running MS-DOS 5.0
or higher, with Windows version 3.1x (with LAN Manager for MS-DOS) or
Windows for Workgroups version 3.1x.

NOTE:	A client computer running Windows NT Workstation uses
different versions of the server administration tools. Connect
to a Windows NT Server and run the
\CLIENTS\SRVTOOLS\WINNT\SETUP.BAT command (on the Windows NT
Server compact disc, or on the server's hard drive if Windows NT
Server Tools have been installed with Network Client
Administrator from the Windows NT Server CD-ROM).
Disregard the rest of this README file.

To install the Windows NT Server Tools:

     1. On the client computer, use File Manager to connect to a
directory containing the Windows NT Server Tools. This could
	be either of the following:

		The \CLIENTS\SRVTOOLS\WINDOWS directory on a
Windows NT Server computer, where Network Client
Administrator was used to install the Windows NT
Server Tools on the server's hard drive

		The \CLIENTS\SRVTOOLS\WINDOWS directory on the
Windows NT Server compact disc (either inserted in
the client's CD-ROM drive or shared by the server)

     2. In the \CLIENTS\SRVTOOLS\WINDOWS directory, double-click
	the SETUP.EXE program.

When you install the Windows NT Server Tools on a Windows client computer,
you must manually adjust lines in the clients CONFIG.SYS, AUTOEXEC.BAT,
and SYSTEM.INI files. The Setup program creates NEW-CONF.SYS and NEW-VARS.BAT
files in the client's SRVTOOLS directory, containing lines that you simply
copy to the C:\CONFIG.SYS and C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT files. These are the changes
required:

	CONFIG.SYS must contain a files=x line, where x is a number
equal to or greater than 30.

AUTOEXEC.BAT must have the following changes:

The directory containing the Windows NT Server Tools
must be on the PATH line.

If you are in a time zone other than Pacific Standard
Time (PST), add a "set tz" line to set the time zone.
For example, if you are in New York, add the line
		"set tz=est5edt".

You must also have the latest network redirector software and network
API library for Windows, as follows:

For Windows for Workgroups version 3.1, use the existing versions.
Do not install a newer redirector.

For Windows for Workgroups version 3.11, the Windows NT Server
Tools Setup program installs a new redirector (VREDIR.386) and
	network API library (NETAPI.DLL).

For LAN Manager for MS DOS, you must upgrade to version 2.2c
	(which includes the latest redirector).

2. Additional Password Prompts for Windows NT Server Tools
----------------------------------------------------------
When you use the Windows NT Server Tools on a Windows client computer,
you will be asked at times to log on or to enter your password for
verification. If you were running the normal Windows NT versions of
these tools on a Windows NT computer, you would not need to supply
your password separately. These additional password prompts are
necessary to ensure that you have administrative privilege for the
server on which you are focused.

3. Establishing Trust Relationships With Windows NT Server Tools
----------------------------------------------------------------
When you use the Windows NT Server Tools, you can create trust
relationships between domains but you cannot verify them. Be sure to
enter correct passwords for the trust relationships.

4. Using Long Filenames With Windows NT Server Tools
----------------------------------------------------
File Manager on a Windows 3.1x client does not support long filenames,
so you may not be able to set permissions properly for files with long
filenames on a server. A Windows NT Server automatically translates
long filenames on an NTFS partition to short MS-DOS filenames, and you
can set permissions on them. You cannot, however, set permissions on
files with long filenames on a LAN Manager HPFS partition.

5. Installing Over Older Versions of Win32s
-------------------------------------------
If you have a Beta version of Win32s installed on your computer, you may
encounter problems when upgrading to the version of Win32s provided with
Windows NT Server Tools. Therefore, you may prefer to install Windows
NT Server Tools onto a computer with Windows or Windows for Workgroups
that does not have a version of Win32s already installed on it. If you
do encounter problems after upgrading over an older version of Win32s,
re-install the latest version of Win32s from the CD for the Win32 SDK.
The Win32s Setup program on this CD actually deletes any previous
version of Win32s and provides a fresh installation.
